Summary

Two sisters。

One brutal murder。

A quest for vengeance that will unleash Hell itself…

And an intoxicating romance。

Emilia and her twin sister Vittoria are streghe—witches who live secretly among humans, avoiding notice and persecution。 One night, Vittoria misses dinner service at the family’s renowned Sicilian restaurant。 Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin… desecrated beyond belief。 Devastated, Emilia sets out to find her sister’s killer and to seek vengeance at any cost—even if it means using dark magic that’s been long forbidden。

Then Emilia meets Wrath, one of the Wicked Princes of Hell that she has been warned against in tales since she was a child。 Wrath claims to be on Emilia’s side, tasked by his master with solving the series of women’s murders on the island。 But when it comes to the Wicked, nothing is as it seems…

Rating 3。5⭐️This actually has an alluring ideas and characters, nevertheless the plotlines feel a bit jumpy and too abrupt to be finely tucked into my head。and I have A LOT of questions。。。。。。。。。。。

I don’t even know what to say except don’t bother reading this

I want to give it 3。5 stars, but that might be too generous。 For the most part, nothing really happens in the book until halfway and I found it to be a little boring。 The ending did seem interesting though, and I believe that book 2 will be a lot more interesting。

Sofia

The book is really good written, aesthetic is so pretty and main characters are interesting but I HATED the ending。 I hope the second book will explain the last pages。

Britt

I liked this book a lot and i loved the writing style。 Sometimes I just couldn’t follow it but that’s probably bc i’m dutch。 But overal i would definetly read it again and I can’t wait for “kingdom of the cursed”。

This book was all over in my bookstagram feed。 So I started reading it because it has everything I like in my books。 This is a kind of murder mystery fantasy book that takes place in Italy。 The year where this book takes place is actually never specified, and it was really frustrating for me because I was trying to visualise。 I thought the book was in 1800's Italy。 I loved the storyline where it's headed but the setting of the book is so poorly described that I had to literally make up a time pe This book was all over in my bookstagram feed。 So I started reading it because it has everything I like in my books。 This is a kind of murder mystery fantasy book that takes place in Italy。 The year where this book takes place is actually never specified, and it was really frustrating for me because I was trying to visualise。 I thought the book was in 1800's Italy。 I loved the storyline where it's headed but the setting of the book is so poorly described that I had to literally make up a time period in which this book takes place。The story starts with twin witch sisters, one of them gets murdered and other one summons a demon from hell to take revenge and uncover the mystery。 But she actually summoned a prince of hell, Wrath (There are seven princes each one represent a deadly sin)。 And now the prince is somehow accidentally bound to her by this ritual and they go on to the journey of finding out who the murderer is? This is the perfect story for me like they hate eachother but they've to work together because they've to find out who the killer is? Demon prince of hell as love interest like this is the type of thing I live for!!🙈 Also Amelia's family owns a restaurant named Sea and Vine and l particularly loved how Kerri gives lush description of foods。I'm really excited for the second book how Amelia's relationship with Wrath turns out。 I wanna see Wrath's personality because in this one there's nothing about him! 。。。more

This book is exactly what I needed to read, because I needed an escape where it wasn't too heavy on my brain。 Five things to point out:First of all, I love the exploration of Italian culture/history, and the descriptions of food had me drooling。 Secondly, for being a Prince of Hell and a literal demon, Wrath is surprisingly gentlemanly。 He is very well-mannered and his calm demeanour balances out Emilia's feisty one - a nice change from most book boys in this genre (though he certainly fits into This book is exactly what I needed to read, because I needed an escape where it wasn't too heavy on my brain。 Five things to point out:First of all, I love the exploration of Italian culture/history, and the descriptions of food had me drooling。 Secondly, for being a Prince of Hell and a literal demon, Wrath is surprisingly gentlemanly。 He is very well-mannered and his calm demeanour balances out Emilia's feisty one - a nice change from most book boys in this genre (though he certainly fits into the dark-haired-brooding-bad-boy archetype)。 Third, I really liked how the world was set up。 The magic system and the faith went well together, unlike another religious-slash-witch book I really disliked。 Each demon prince had a distinct look that depicted their powers, and the differences in magic were explained well。 Fourth, I really liked Vittoria, and I wish I didn't feel attached to her when I knew what was going to happen。 Fifth and most importantly, I FREAKING LOVE NONNA! Badass grandmas are my favourite!Though I predicted most of the plot, it was still an enjoyable read and I'm definitely going to read the next one! That ending has me wishing I'd waited until the next book was released ugh4/5 stars! 。。。more

Wrath has me conflicted and I want to know more about him。 I liked Emilia as a main character, although I did get annoyed a few times where she latched onto one particular theory and got tunnel vision and just ignored other things going on that may prove that theory wrong。 She's also dealing with the death of her twin, so like I don't think that really lessens her character because I don't think I would necessarily be the most rational person while grieving either。 The notes from the di Carlo grimoire that occasionally showed up between chapters were fun worldbuilding tidbits。 And once again, THE AUDIOBOOK PERFORMANCE IS SO GOOOOOOOD! 。。。more

I am always a sucker for stories about vengeance, bad boys, and magic, and this had all three! Not only did it feature my top hits, they were woven together so well。 The relationship developed at a believable pace, the need for vengeance was justified, and the magic was less sparks and spells and more herbal mixtures and incantations。 Emilia is such a wonderful heroine too。 She starts the novel in the shadow of her twin sister, Vittoria, staying at home to work the family restaurant while her si I am always a sucker for stories about vengeance, bad boys, and magic, and this had all three! I liked the premise of the book, and because of the good premise I am willing to overlook some of the things I didn't like and will probably read the sequel。 I like the sort of dark, witchy vibes with italian flavors。 I like "dark lord" "bad boy" premise of the male protagonist paired with a women who doesn't fully trust him and yet finds she has no other choice。 The world building is awesome, the magic is used isn't unique but is cool nonetheless, who doesn't love a good seven deadly sins? Combined with a murder mystery! This book had a premise that should have landed five stars in my book, and was just。。。 okay。 This book seemed VERY influenced by Karen Marie Monings DarkFever series。 I LOVE that series, the first three books are some of my all time favorites, so I am no mad or surprised that it has influenced other authors。 Okay now for things I didn't love。 First, as in DarkFever the book starts off with a death of a sister, in this case her twin。 Part of what made Monings series so great is that the grief felt very real, and the author really had the character walk through this journey of revenge。 Maniscalco tried to do that with having a slow beginning where we are introduced to the sister while she's still alive, yet we still didn't care very much when she was murdered。 Secondly。 The main character describes how she feels objectified by humans for being a witch, despite her good intentions。 Yet, she consistently objectifies a demon regardless of his actions? It just makes the character hypocritical and unlikeable。 I kept wanting her to just。。。。。be nicer to him? **Spoilers**The ultimate murderer reveal was lackluster and predictable。 Usually a good murder mystery leaves you little bread crumbs and clues, that maybe you didn't pick up on the first read through。 While the book tried, the bread crumbs where just not very well hidden。 I liked the dichotomy of Amalia wanting to like and trust Wrath, yet she can't truly trust his intentions especially after her conversation with Envy。 Then I was like "yes! we're really getting somewhere!" I like that when that plot line is pushed, the characters already have enough of a relationship with each other that Wrath cares that she doesn't trust him。 I really don't like it when the characters are "destined" to be together or "mated" or whatever。 I feel being fated takes away from actually building relationship。 However how the book ends, kind of undoes all that? Idk the ending was kind of a hot mess, but left me curious enough to pick up the second book。 。。。more

This book started out a little slow for me。 I got to page 103 and seriously considered DNFing it。 But literally the next chapter began to pick up the pace, and then I couldn't put it down。 I think it was so slow because she was trying to explain witch lore, Italian culture, etc and I was already very familiar。 I guess if you weren't familiar it might not have felt slow in the beginning。 That last chapter crushed my heart。 I have so many feelings。 This book started out a little slow for me。 I got to page 103 and seriously considered DNFing it。 But literally the next chapter began to pick up the pace, and then I couldn't put it down。 I think it was so slow because she was trying to explain witch lore, Italian culture, etc and I was already very familiar。 I guess if you weren't familiar it might not have felt slow in the beginning。 That last chapter crushed my heart。 I have so many feelings。 。。。more

4。5 ✨Ok i needed a minute after reading this to get my thoughts together to review。 I’ve been reading a TON of smutty romance lately and have been craving some fantasy with a lil world building and ofc some romance and this DELIVERED。 Obvi a lot of people read this and talk about the enemies to lovers arc with Wrath and Emilia with is yes incredible。 The banter is top tier and once the action starts picking up and we get towards the end where it’s incredibly clear how both Wrath and Emilia feel 4。5 ✨Ok i needed a minute after reading this to get my thoughts together to review。 I’ve been reading a TON of smutty romance lately and have been craving some fantasy with a lil world building and ofc some romance and this DELIVERED。 Obvi a lot of people read this and talk about the enemies to lovers arc with Wrath and Emilia with is yes incredible。 The banter is top tier and once the action starts picking up and we get towards the end where it’s incredibly clear how both Wrath and Emilia feel about eachother??? epic。 But i alsooo really enjoyed the other elements of this book, the magic system was cool even though I’m still trying to figure out exactly how it works。 I also really loved all the feminist elements of the plot that of course cannot be missed when you’re including generational witches in a fantasy novel。 The themes of sisterhood are also kick ass here with Emilia’s driving force being vengeance for her sister。 Overall, I really enjoyed this one and it motivated me to tackle more of my physical TBR。 I also know that the next book is going to be a little bit more NA than YA so obv v hype for that and also I NEED VINDICATION FOR WRATH!!!!! 。。。more
